The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has recommended that the Deputy Head of the Commercial Crimes Unit, DSP (Mrs.) Gifty Mawunyegah Tehoda, and the Head of the Narcotics Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (Cm) of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Kofi Adzei-Tuadzra, should be held responsible for their respective roles in the transformation of the cocaine exhibit which turned out to be sodium carbonate during a recent cocaine trial in Accra.

An interim report released by the BNI in Accra on Tuesday after its investigation into the cocaine-turn-sodium carbonate saga said the investigation established strong circumstantial evidence that the cocaine was swapped with the active assistance of and facilitation by DSP (Mrs.) Tehoda.

The report said although DSP Mrs Tehoda had nothing to do with the investigation under review, she took Nana Ama Martins, the suspect in the case, out of cells on nine occasions under the ruse of “further investigations” and spent an average of two hours with her in her office on each occasion.

It said while DSP (Mrs.) Tehoda’s conduct was obstructive of the investigation being conducted by her colleagues, the responsibility for the security of the exhibit was that of DSP Adzei-Tuadzra.

Approximately one kilogramme (1,020 kg) of cocaine presented as exhibit in the Republic vs Nana Ama Martins case turned out to be sodium bicarbonate on re-testing by the Ghana Standards Authority.

The substance had earlier undergone a field test at the Police Headquarters and a more elaborate test at the Police Crime Laboratory in 2008. Both tests had proved the sub¬stance positive for cocaine.

The BNI was directed to investigate the circumstances leading to the change of the substance and identify the culprits.

According to the report, Nana Martins was arrested in Accra on August 22, 2008 with a substance suspected to be cocaine but the case was never brought to trial until she was granted bail (against the relevant laws) on September I L 2009.

She jumped bail, to be rearrested on July 21, 2011, after which the case was reactivated for the trial to begin on August 25, 20 II at Circuit Court One, Cocoa Affairs Courts, presided over by Mr Justice Eric Kyei Baffuor.

The exhibit, which was at all times kept in the office of the Head of the Narcotics Unit of the Police Service and not in a designated exhibit room, was handled by three heads of the Police Narcotics Unit and two investigators from August 22, 2008 to September 27, 2011 when it was first tendered in evidence.

The report said L/Cpl Anyekase visually identified and confirmed the exhibit on September 28, 2011 as the same one he had tendered on September 27, 2011, suggesting that it had not changed overnight.

Long before the substance was tendered in court, Kwabla Senanu, the defence counsel, had insisted to the prosecutor, Stella Arhin, that the exhibit was not cocaine. The exhibit stayed in the court premises from September 27 to 29, 2011 when it was sent for re-testing, after which it returned negative for cocaine.

The report said any change in the substance at the court would have happened over the two nights.

However, the investigation found no evidence of any visible change in the substance over those two days and nights, as testified to by L/Cpl Anyekase, Constable Joseph Owusu and the prosecutor, Stella Arhin. Both Owusu and Arhin endorsed the new sample for re-testing.

The Board of Globacom Limited has said the much anticipated Glo Mobile network will take place in Ghana on Thursday, January 19, 2012.

The announcement was made on Thursday night at the Glo CAF African Footballer of the Year 2011 held at the Banquet Hall in Accra.

Mr. George Andah, Chief Operating Officer of Glo Mobile Ghana, said Globacom’s world class network would go live for commercial voice and data service.

He said this historic event would be heralded by a series of launch activities befitting a highly anticipated occasion of its magnitude.

Mr Andah said: “We will continue to pursue our resolve to provide the needed opportunity for Africa to leap forward economically through an excellent communication network and cost-effective voice, data, video and e-commerce services.”

Globacom, announced last month that it was launch-ready after having completed building its infrastructure which included more than 1,600 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), five Switches with capacity for 10 million lines, and 18 Base Switching Centres (BSC).

The others are 800 3G Node Bs, a state-of-the-art Call Center and 25 Gloworld outlets – all of which form part of an integrated state-of-the-art telecommunications system designed to offer exceptional telephone and internet connectivity to the majority of Ghanaians.

The Glo Mobile Ghana network is a 3.5G Plus system with the latest telecommunication technology such as Next Generation Network and is complemented by the high-capacity Glo 1 submarine fibre-optic cable.

The roll out of the services of Glo Mobile network would also be supported by a 2,900 km-long network of terrestrial fibre optic ring, which has been built across the country.

Mr. Andah said Globacom owed much of its success in Ghana to the support received personally from President John Evans Atta Mills and the Government of Ghana, as well as to the goodwill and understanding of the good people of Ghana.

“The massive support we have received from every strata of the society bolstered our zeal to build in Ghana a robust nationwide network with the most modern, most innovative and the most reliable infrastructure that will tremendously boost the capacity of the people to communicate seamlessly with business associates and loved ones at the most competitive tariffs,” he said.

Mr Andah also thanked Ghanaians for keeping faith with Globacom and assured the country of the company’s resolve to offer a world class telecom network that every Ghanaian will be proud of.

He said Globacom was absolutely certain that its relationship with the Government and people of Ghana would continue to be mutually beneficial and stressed that Glo Mobile Ghana would make good its resolve to contribute to the overall development of “this great country”.

Azonto tutorial animation for Azonto Dance fans

The dance was first called “Apaa”(which means work) by the people of Bukom and its environs, this was to represent the movements like washing, driving, boxing etc that was associated with dance. However, the term ‘azonto’ which was popularly used among senior high school students to refer to a life later became accepted by the larger population as the name for the dance. The dance now known as Azonto was later observed in an evolved form among ‘street communities’ in Tarkwa, Abossey Okai, certain suburbs of Accra (namely Korle-Gonno, La and Chorkor), in pubs, night clubs, dance battles with friends and passers-by. Perhaps because of its apparent use of strength and vigor, and preference of the then popular and more sophisticated “crip walk” and “break dance” known in Ghana as ‘cracking’ in Senior High Schools, the dance was seen as being less refined than alternate styles.

A popular and award winning choreographer vanity chaser invented the newest version of Azonto dance called “The Azonto Nkoso”. This version of Azonto is popular amongst the Nima people, which is highly populated by the Muslim community. The Azonto Nkoso is different from the Azonto in that it uses a push and pull movement.

Azonto – Fuse ODG Feat. Tiffany (OFFICIAL)

The dance was made very popular by Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan in his goal celebrations for club and country. Azonto has been further commercialized with its inclusion in music lyrics and music video clips. Examples of such music include African Girls by Castro, U Go Kill Me by Sarkodie, Yenko Nkoaa by Eduwoji, Keche’s Sorkode, Azonto by Fuse ODG which featured Tiffany, and more recently Obuu Mo by EL,which specifically mentions the Azonto style of dance and features Azonto in the video clip.

Biography:

Wanlov the Kubolor (Kubolor is a Ga word meaning vagabond) was born Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu in Romania to an Ashanti man and a Romanian woman.
Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu is fluent in Twi, English, Romanian, and Pidgin. He began rapping his favorite lyrics with high school friends and performing the local circuit in Cape Coast & Takoradi, Ghana while attending Adisadel College.

Known as Spooky, he was well known for his performances in which he emulated the stage personas from Busta Rhymes’ vivacious delivery to Snoop’s debonair flows. With his pure, unadulterated talent, charisma, and lyrical skill, he is taking his message of awareness, to the masses. Upon immediate arrival in the United States of America (to pursue higher education) Wanlov proved his skills in the freestyle circuit of the south. Within two years of residence in Temple, Texas, Wanlov, then still known as Spooky, won over the respect of local emcees in the Central Texas area.

Wanlov’s widely acclaimed versatility is heard on his debut album “Green Card”, released in 2007 on his return to Ghana after a 7-year stay in the States. Being nominated at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards for “Discovery of The Year”, “Record of The Year”, “Video of The Year” & “Hip Hop Song of The Year”, shows that Kubolor’s contribution has made a strong impression on his people. Already being referred to as a classic in less than a year since its release, Kubolor’s debut album, “Green Card”, went on to capture the hearts and minds of the people the world over.

Majid Michel’s Biography:

Majid Michel Erawoc (born 22nd September, 1980) is a Ghanaian actor. Majid was born in Accra, Ghana, to Michel Erawoc, a Lebanese, and Paulina Olympio, a Ghanaian. Majid was raised in Accra along with his nine siblings. He attended St. Theresa’s Primary School, and later, the elite Mfantsipim School, the alma mater of Van Vicker and also of former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. In secondary school, Majid was actively involved in theater and was a member of the school’s Drama Club. As a member of the drama club, Majid received a Best Actor Award in one of their performances on Emancipation Day in Cape Coast, Ghana.

Majid entered professional acting by chance. He was invited to join the modeling agency, Super Model Agency, on the behest of his next door neighbor. The director of the modeling agency, now turned producer, invited him to participate in a new TV series (GTV), dubbed Things We Do for Love. Majid acquired his nickname “Shaker” on the set. His role on Things We Do for Love, was to be played by a Lebanese boy, and Majid attributes his acquiring the role to his Lebanese heritage.

Thing We Do for Love became a success and propelled Majid into the mainstream. On the strength of his performance in Things We Do for Love, Majid was cast in his first movie Divine Love as the male lead, alongside Jackie Aygemang Appiah as the female lead with Van Vicker in a supporting role. All three used their roles in the movie to debut their movie careers. Divine Love was a huge success turning Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, and Van Vicker into household names across Ghana and to a large extent Nigeria.

Majid is married to his beautiful wife Virna and they have two daughters.

Being from two different cultures gave Miss Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu the ability to see things from more than one perspective and thus made her open to diversity, readily identifying the beauty in things as well as developing a genuine interest in people and cultures. Ultimately it led her to being an extrovert woman with outstanding social skills.

Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu's own design

Deborah grew up in Accra, attended Christ the King Int. Sch., then Wesley Girls High Sch. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Publishing Studies from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana followed by a Master Degree in Book/Journal Publishing from the University of the Arts London in the UK. She has shown her professionalism and passion for her chosen field by working successfully for both small enterprises as well as big corporations in Ghana, the United States and United Kingdom.

Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu London Shoot 2009

Naturally being the centre of attention since her childhood, Deborah has always been a ‘show’ person of sorts and has since found the right balance between corporate work and the entertainment industry. Her experience as a mentor through the Mannequin Academy, an initiative to give industry training to both professional and amateur models that she co-founded, gave her the confidence that she had the strength to take on greater things. She recently had a life changing experience when hosting a documentary for the Cadbury Canada Fair trade Campaign taking the world to Ghana’s cocoa farmers and their farms, proudly presenting the valuable commodity and flourishing farming communities as well as educating the public on the importance of Fair trade.

Deborah is going from strength to strength, multiplying experiences as a TV personality and a public figure, and constantly inspiring people. With Miss Ghana 2010, she found a way to blend her many passions for fashion, mentoring, presenting and representing Ghana’s beauty and now, as E.TV Ghana’s host of the Late Night Celebrity Show, she is set to be a significant player on Ghana’s cultural scene and the best is yet to come.
